Design & Technology Curriculum Intent
At Sudley Junior School, our Design and Technology curriculum allows children to use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. It provides children with the opportunity to think creatively, engage in problem solving and be adventurous when designing a product which considers their own and others’ needs, wants and values. Practical tasks develop children’s ability to take risks, be resourceful and innovative, whilst also ensuring opportunities to express their individuality in the construction of their products. Through carefully sequenced lessons, pupils are taught the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to confidentially engage in the sequence of designing, making and evaluating. Skills are taught progressively to ensure that all children are able to learn and develop their knowledge and skills as they move through the school. Design and Technology contributes to children’s personal development in resilience and self-reflection, with opportunities to work collaboratively and independently to fulfil design briefs. Through the evaluation of past and present products, we celebrate the diversity of cultures, designers and products from around the world.
