Sudley Geography Curriculum Intent
At Sudley Junior School, our Geography curriculum is designed to inspire a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. We equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people and global issues, enabling them to become responsible, respectful and caring citizens. We believe that Geography helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about both Physical and Human Geography on a global and local scale. Pupils are encouraged to recognise that they have a voice and to use it maturely to debate topics that they feel passionate about, for example, migration and deforestation. We aim to produce well-rounded citizens by providing our children with opportunities to expand their cultural capital and experiences of the world. Geographical skills are developed through field work and using maps, atlases and computer programs. As pupils progress throughout the school, their growing knowledge of the world helps them to understand the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments. Learning is sequenced to provide explanations of how Earth’s features at different scales are shaped, interconnected and change over time.
