Changes to Home Learning

Dear Parent/Carer,

As of this half term, we are changing the way we organise our home learning.

While the timetable for home learning will remain the same, we are moving away from worksheets and books and towards published ‘Targeted Practice Workbooks’.

From Wednesday 31 October, each child will come home with two workbooks: one for Maths and one for English. Along with this will be an information sheet explaining which double page your child should work on that week. This will either be linked to concepts that have already been taught in class or standalone basic skills work. Class teachers will go through the task with the children before it goes home. Please do not complete any other pages in the book other than the ones indicated for that week.

Each double page spread has three challenges which become increasingly more difficult.  Every child is expected to start with ‘Challenge Two’, moving back to ‘Challenge One’ if support is needed or on to ‘Challenge Three’ if possible. There is no expectation in terms of amount of work completed, just a commitment to 20 minutes work per book, each week.

In the back of the book, you will find the answers. This is an aid for parent/carers only and therefore supervised homework is recommended in order for it to be purposeful. At the end of the 20 minute session, we would encourage parents’/carers’ to go through the homework, discussing ‘How do you know?’ and to go through any misunderstandings where possible. Children should then self-assess how confident they feel about the tasks they have completed at the bottom of the page.

It is really important that these homework books are returned on time each Monday so that they can be marked and homework can be set again for the following week.

Thank you again for your on-going support, should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch

Kind Regards
